In lunch hour services we learnt the character and
behaviour of Asa.
2 Chronicles 14:2
And Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God.
He did what was good and right in the eyes of God.
God was his audience.
God should be bigger than people.
Removed foreign alters.
2 Chronicles 14:3
He took away the foreign altars and the high places and broke down the pillars and cut down the Asherim
There are things that defile your heart and are an abomination to God.
Removing foreign alters means establishing Jehovah as the only true God and ruler in our lives.
Because the Kingdom was quiet, they built.
2 Chronicles 14:6-7
He built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest. He had no war in those years, for the
LORD gave him peace. And he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours because we have sought the LORD our God. We have sought him, and he has given us peace on every side.” So they built and prospered.
Walls – protection.
Towers – vigilance.
Gates – order and discipline.
Grills – reinforcement.
1Thes 4:11.
Built and prospered.
Two ideas:
Built and completed.
Prospered after building.
Prosper in all things.
Spiritually – intimacy with God.
Financially – debt-free.
Socially – connection with people.
Intellectually – godly and productive ideas. Mental health.
Physically – divine health and healing.
Emotionally – stress- and depression-free.
These create the atmosphere to hear God.
After doing the things above, Asa was able to run to God to pray for direction when he was invaded.
Asa prayed.
2 Chronicles 14:11
And Asa cried to the LORD his God, “O LORD, there is none like you to help between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O LORD, you are our God; let not man prevail against you.”
This is a prayer of desperation.
He was aware of the idols in the land.
He was aware of how the people had forsaken there teaching prophets.
He was aware the people had forsaken the law of God.
So he cried to the Lord.
There is a better way brethren to engage with God.
We cry to the Lord so that we can engage in the better way.
God is merciful. He took over the battle. He defeated the Ethiopians.
God does not deal with us according to what we deserve.
